Mineral Springs Police Department Changes

The Mineral Springs Police Department has seen changes in leadership in recent weeks with former Chief of Police Jonathan Dykes stepping down. Stepping into the roll was Francisco Mercado.

Latest news from the department as per Chief Mercado – Nathan Cornish who recently graduated the Police Academy and has served the city of Mineral Springs this year will have his last day employed by the city on December 31st. Mercado said in a move that wasn’t surprising Cornish has accepted a position with the Prescott Police Department.

Mercado said he is currently looking for more certified and non certified officers to fill out the ranks for the city as he would like to have 3 full time certified officers as well as part time officers at his disposal. He also said that Dykes as well as Cornish will potentially work as part time officers in the meantime.

Mercado, age 30 and a Native of Mineral Springs, comes from the Texarkana Police Department and has a 9 year history in law enforcement. He says he is looking forward to building the relationship residents have with his department and becoming more community minded.
