Traffic stop in Pike County leads to drug arrest

A Caddo Gap man was arrested last month after Arkansas State Trooper Seth Smedley conducted a traffic stop at approximately 11:36pm on May 28th due to the vehicle having defective license plate lights. The suspect was identified as 43-year-old Glenn McCurdy Jr who was sitting on the passenger side of the vehicle. According to the affidavit Smedley noticed McCurdy Jr was holding a pizza box in his lap and that he also showed an active warrant originating from the Arkansas Board of Parole. Trooper Smedley contacted Pike County Sheriff’s Deputy Christopher Gates and requested assistance from him and assistance from K9 Dugo.

It was reported that K9 Dugo did an air sniff and alerted on the passenger door. Smedley then had McCurdy Jr exit the vehicle and placed him into handcuffs and into the back of his patrol unit. Smedley and Gates searched the vehicle and there was a small plastic bag containing suspected methamphetamine inside the pizza box under a slice of pizza. The driver was issued a warning for the defective/improper tail lamps. McCurdy Jr was transported to the Pike County Sheriff’s Office and charged with possession of controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence.
