Murfreesboro man sentenced 15 years for sexual assault

Last week, Bernardo Ruiz of Murfreesboro was sentenced to 15 years plus 5 years suspended in prison. 

Back in November of 2023 we reported that Ruiz was arraigned on November 27th, 2023, on the charges of rape and 4th degree sexual assault in the Pike County Circuit Court before Circuit Court Judge Bryan Chesshir.  Ruiz was arrested in Illinois on November 7, 2023, after fleeing the state by the US Marshals. He was extradited back to Pike County where he was scheduled to be tried by a jury of his peers.

The case against Ruiz was opened in 2023, when his wife reported Ruiz had been sending sexually explicit texts to her juvenile sister. The juvenile later reported in June of 2023 that Ruiz had sexually assaulted her and raped her in her home. 

The Pike County Sheriff’s Department would like to thank everyone for all the tips that helped capture Ruiz so just could be served.
