Area residents warned about new scam in area

The Howard County Sheriff’s Department has received a report from a citizen saying that he was contacted by a person claiming to be Federal Senior Officer Marshall Cooper. “Officer Cooper” advised the citizen that his Identification had been hacked and he would help him get a new Social Security number. Still, he needed him to purchase Walmart gift cards and provide him with numbers to resolve this matter. If anyone receives a similar call, it is a SCAM. Also, never offer anyone that you do not know money over the phone and do not cooperate with these requests if you get a similar call.
