Local Candidate Filing Period Closes

The filing period for local candidates ended at noon Tuesday. In Howard county, there will only be two contested races next year, both being for school board positions. In Nashville, Tem Gunter & Misty Wilson are seeking the Zone two seat. The other contested race will be for the Zone 5 seat at Mineral Springs. Ray Hawkins, the current board member, has filed for re-election and will be challenged next year by Verna Hockaday.
The Howard County Quorum Court will have a new member after next year’s election. Dick Wakefield chose not to seek re-election. D’Ann Rogers filed for Wakefield’s seat.
In Pike county, there will be just one contested race in the 2020 elections. Three people have filed for Justice of the Peace Position 7 on the Pike County Quorum Court. Richard Mohlenoff and Tim Trout both filed last week for the open seat. Tuesday, Keith Couch also filed for the position that includes areas around Nathan, Daisy & Newhope.
In a judicial filing, 9th West Prosecuting Attorney Bryan Chesshir has filed for Circuit Judge. Chesshir will replace the retiring Charles Yeargan.
