Scrapperettes and Outlaws win regional tournaments

Two Howard County basketball teams won their regional tournament championships yesterday.  At the 4A South Region Tournament at Scrapper Arena, Nashville defeated the Magnolia Lady Panthers, 57 to 26.  In the boys championship, Magnolia was a 60 to 53 winner over Watson Chapel.

The 2A South Region Tournament wrapped up yesterday at Dierks, with the Outlaws getting their first ever regional tournament championship, 55 to 37 over Junction City.

In the girls game, Fordyce picked up a 60 to 31 win yesterday over Lafayette County.

At Mineral Springs this weekend, the Bradley Bears won the the Class A Region Tournament, defeating Mineral Springs Saturday, by a score of 71 to 35.  The girls game saw Kirby defeat Bradley, 43 to 33.

Looking ahead to the state tournaments this week, the Nashville Scrapperettes draw a first round bye and will play Saturday night at 7 o’clock.  The 4A State Tournament is being played at Magnolia.

The Dierks Outlaws begin state tournament play Thursday afternoon at 2:30.  Their tournament will be played in Junction City.

In Class A, the Mineral Springs Hornets first state tournament game will be Friday night at 8:30.  Their tournament is being hosted by Wonderview.
