Legacy Win 2 out of 3 for Homecoming

Oaklee Lofton

Lockesburg, AR—Legacy Academy Warriors and Lady Warriors took to the court following their first Homecoming games in Lockesburg last Friday night. The teams faced off against Gospel Light from Hot Springs.
In Junior Boys action, the home team secured a victory over Gospel Light’s Lions 51-40. The junior warriors came out strong outscoring the visitors 13-6 in the first quarter and went into the locker rooms up 29-14 at the half. The Hot Springs team had a better second half, keeping up with the Warriors, who were able to work their entire bench into the game. Eli Mitchell led the Warriors with 17 points, followed by Manolo Vasquez with 16. Mitchell secured 7 rebounds for the Lockesburg team. Vasquez and Layne Schroer each grabbed 6 boards apiece.
Legacy’s Lady Warriors traded their homecoming gowns and heels for their basketball uniforms and hightopS to face off against the Lady Lions. Their efforts captured a big homecoming win for the Lady Warriors defeating the visitors 58-47. In a young building phase, this is the school’s second year to have a senior girls team. It was a close first quarter with the home team scoring 12 and the visitors 11, but the Lady Warriors went on a scoring run in the second quarter outscoring the Lady Lions 21-8. This was due primarily to layups by freshman Oaklee Lofton and a 3 pointers by Hannah Mae Morris. The home team led 33-22 at the half. The score tightened some in the second half but the Lockesburg team held on to their victory securely, leading the game from the first to the last buzzer. Oaklee Lofton scored 22 points for Legacy, followed by Homecoming Queen Grace Tucker with 14, Dori Bartek made 12, and Hannah Mae Morris brought 9. Tucker had 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Trinity Cox followed with 4 rebounds.
In what’s proven to be a good year thus far for the Warriors’ senior boys team, it was not their best night. In recent years Gospel Light and Legacy Academy are closely matched and the first half of Friday night’s contest indicated the fans would see a hotly contested match up but things seemed to fall apart for the Warriors in the third quarter where the Lions outscored them by a dozen points. Add this to outscoring the home team by 3 points in the first and second quarters, the Warriors entered the fourth quarter in dangerous territory. In spite of making the last quarter their highest scoring with 19 points, it was not enough, as the visitors scored 23. The Warriors fell 70-51. Ethan Gallagher was the high scorer with 26 points and DJ Morris provided 21 points, including 4 3-pointers! Gallagher also grabbed 7 rebounds, while Eli Hamilton secured 5.
Junior teams play Eagletown at home Monday evening. The Warriors go on the road Tuesday to Camden to take on Victory Christian and play at home again Friday against Russelville’s Valley Christian before heading into the Christmas break.
