Lewisville man facing drug charges in Howard County

Drug possession charges have been filed in Howard County against a Lewisville man.  43 year old Christopher Newton is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, methamphetamine.  Authorities say the charges are the result of a February 21st traffic stop made by local police.  Reports said Officer Mackenzie Vermillion observed a vehicle being driven by Newton.  A traffic stop was conducted because the officer was aware that Newton had a suspended license.  During the traffic stop, officers say Newton told them he was on probation for meth possession.  Police asked for, and were granted consent to search the vehicle.  During the search process, Officer Vermillion said he located a cigarette package that concealed a small plastic bag with a crystal like substance, believed to be methamphetamine.

Newton was arrested and transported to the Howard County Jail.
