Clean water audit for the City of Dierks

The city of Dierks has received a good report on the town’s water audit for 2021.  Last year, Dierks drew statewide attention after it was determined more than $500,000 in water department receipts were unaccounted for.  Audits were not performed for an extended period of time because the city failed to provide the necessary documentation.  Last fall, Mayor Ronnie Cogburn appeared in Little Rock at a meeting of the state legislative Joint Auditing Committee to answer  questions regarding the situation.

During Monday’s regular April Dierks City Council meeting, it was reported the 2021 audit came back clear, with no issues noted.

In other business at Monday’s meeting, aldermen voted to allow water customers to begin paying their monthly water bill online through Pay Star.  The new online payment system is expected to be up and running by May.

Council members also voted to install security cameras in the water office lobby, and bids will be accepted on a ball field project at the city park.  The project will include construction of fencing and back stops at the two fields.
