Local Woman Sentenced In Pike County
A Nashville woman was sentenced to eight years in prison Monday in Pike County Circuit Court. 43 year old Tonya Austin was arrested in September during a traffic stop made by Murfreesboro police. While searching the vehicle, police said they recovered a set of digital scales that contained suspected Methamphetamine residue. After transporting Austin to jail, authorities say they searched the patrol car for any contraband and discovered a cloth zipper type bag under the seat where Austin had been sitting. Inside the bag, officers said they recovered syringes, new plastic baggies, two glass pipes, two sets of digital scales and over five grams of suspected Methamphetamine.
During Monday’s court proceedings, Austin was sentenced to eight years in prison on charges of possessing a controlled substance with purpose to deliver and a six year sentence was given on a count of possessing drug paraphernalia. The sentences will be served concurrently.
