Legacy Academy Senior Boys Defeats Mt. Ida 67-48

Lockesburg’s Legacy Academy traveled to Mt. Ida for a night of basketball on Tuesday, 11/29. Legacy’s senior boys secured a big victory, while Mt. Ida swept the other three games held that night. It was a strong road win for the Warriors, who are now 10-1 this season, with their only defeat being to CMA of Hot Springs. The Warriors came out strong doubling the Mt. Ida Lions 20-10 in the first quarter, but only outscored the home team by two points in the second quarter. The Warriors led by twelve at the half. A very physical third quarter saw Legacy outscored in the paint 14-9. A fourth quarter rally saw the visitors outpace the home team 21-9 to deliver a decisive win.

#34 Layne Schroer recorded a double-double with 13 rebounds and 10 points in the senior boys action.

Senior #22 Ethan Gallagher gave the team a season record of 43 points, include 6 three pointers. Gallagher went 13 of 15 from the free-throw line, while also giving the team 8 rebounds, 3 assist, and 2 steals. Layne Schroer grabbed 13 boards for the Warriors and put 10 points on the board to secure a double-double. Schroer and Gallagher each had two blocks. #13, Dean Johnson led the Mt. Ida team with 10 points.

Legacy’s junior boys led the entire first half, but lost their lead in the third period and were never able to recover enough to secure the win. After a hard fought scrabble they came up short 57-49. Eli Mitchell, #11 and Manolo Vazquez, #10 each gave the Warriors 17 points, followed by 5 each from James Bartek and Silas Lofton. Jude Gallagher with 4 and Brayson Talley with 1 finished the scoring for the junior Warriors. #12, Cain McCullough was the high scorer for the junior Mt. Ida squad with 23 points.

Legacy’s girls’ teams both played as well but ended with disappointing results. The Sevier County team lost to the Mt. Ida Lady Lions 53-33. Legacy sophomore, #10, Oaklee Lofton had her first double-double for the night with 12 rebounds and 14 points for the Lady Warriors. Dori Bartek followed with 11 points and 8 rebounds. Bartek also had 3 deflections and 4 steals for the team. #13, Kendall Qualls for the Mt. Ida team scored 17 points.

The junior Lady Lions defeated the junior Lady Warriors decisively 39-4.

All four of Legacy’s teams play again Tuesday, December 6th at home in Lockesburg with games beginning at 4pm against Hot Spring’s Gospel Light.
