Rotary District Governor Visit
Rotary District 6170 Governor Robert Thompson addressed the Nashville Rotary club on Wednesday concerning membership and efforts to eradicate polio. Rotary is a service organization with a vision to create lasting change across the world to meet those in need. Thompson encouraged the local club to look for opportunities to work with nearby communities. The club has discussed the possibility of establishing a satellite club in a neighboring town.
Nashville helped to establish Rotaract, the college level of Rotary, as a student organization at UA Cossatot last year. Rotaract has seventeen members this fall, and three of these members are new officers. The Rotaract officers include President, Eruby Rodriguez; Vice President, Belen Hernandez; and Secretary, Lissette Hernandez.
The number of polio cases in the world has doubled from last year, now with 78 cases being reported. Nigeria has had no cases in the last three years. Polio still exists in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
