AGFC – Gar Tag

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has announced that for the 2022 calendar year they have made 200 tags available for trophy-size Arkansas alligator gar. In order to harvest an alligator gar larger than 36’ you’re going to need one of these tags. And being able to take one of these beasts truly is a trophy.

These gar are the 2nd largest species of freshwater fish in North America, only topped by the white sturgeon. They can frequently grow longer than 7 feet” and weigh more than 200lbs. These gar take decades to reach these lengths. Some live to be as old as 50 year old. If you’d like to test your luck at catching a dinosaur this might be as close as you can get. The AGFC has increased the amount of tags their offering from 100 to 200 this year to help more anglers pursue the species and gather data on alligator gar locations throughout the state.

Head over to the AGFC website beginning today through December 31st to fill out that free application.
