Crater Of Diamond Reports Two Large Gem Finds

Two large diamonds have been found in recent weeks at the Crater of Diamonds State Park.

Mindy Pomtree of Benton was visiting the park last month when she noticed a shiny pebble on top of the ground. After returning home, Pomtree took the stone to a jeweler who confirmed that it was a diamond. Pomtree later took the stone back to the state park to have it weighed and registered. Park officials said the diamond weighed 6.39 carats making it the 12th largest diamond to be found at the state park since 1972.

The other significant diamond was found this month by David Dempsey of Athens, Alabama. Dempsey located the 2.73 carat gem while wet sifting through gravel.
