School attendance for the opening day of classes August 15th in the Nashville School District was at one of its highest levels in the past thirty years. Superintendent Doug Graham told the school board Monday, that the district’s first day enrollment stood at 1,966 students. Graham said the largest enrollment during his 32 years with the district has been 1,971. The figures include 621 students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade at the primary school. The elementary campus reported 400 students on opening day. At the junior high, enrollment stood at 481 students, while the high school reported a first day attendance of 464 students.
Superintendent Graham said the largest single grade is at junior high school, where this year’s 9th grade class totals 180 students. He also noted the district is nearing the point of having to add more teachers in a spot or two, in order to keep the teacher/student ratio within the requirements.
