Local and state law enforcement agencies are teaming up for Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Local and state law enforcement agencies are teaming up this weekend to encourage Arkansans to clean out their medicine cabinets in an effort to make their homes and communities safer. These agencies are organizing more than 300 drop-off locations throughout Arkansas for this year’s Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

The annual effort will be held this Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at locations across the state. At these events Arkansans are encouraged to bring any unused or expired medications and drop them off, no questions asked. Since the program began, nearly 290 tons of medication have been collected in Arkansas.

Drop off points will include the Howard County Sheriff’s Office in Nashville and the Mineral Springs Police Department. Pike County will have collection sites open at the Pike County Sheriff’s Office in Murfreesboro and at Glenwood City Hall. For Hempstead County the drop off point is the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office.

State health experts say that cleaning out medicine cabinets and turning expired, unused medications over to law enforcement during a Drug Take Back event can go a long way towards saving lives. Overdoses are on the rise and the figures have been staggering, especially during the pandemic. Law enforcement agencies say it’s more important than ever to properly dispose of these prescription drugs.
