Local Man Arrested After Reported Shooting Incident
Nashville police have arrested a local resident on weapons related charges.
35 year old Jeffery D. Smith was detained Wednesday after police investigator Tim Bowlin took a report from Brandon Poindexter saying Smith had allegedly brandished a firearm at Poindexter as he was driving down 7th street. Poindexter also told police that Smith shot at him as he drove by Smith’s residence on May 21st. Police reports say the gunshot broke the back glass of Poindexter’s vehicle.
Bowlin and Howard County sheriff’s Investigator Joey Davis went to Smith’s residence and said Smith admitted to them that he had a pistol and took officers to a shed where he kept the firearm. While searching the property, authorities say Nashville police investigator Mark Barnes located a pistol and shotgun.
Smith was arrested on charges of Possessing a Firearm by Certain Persons, Possession of a Defaced Firearm and for committing a terroistic act. In addition, police are also preparing to file two counts of Delivery of a Controlled Substance against Smith.
