Mineral Springs board approves teacher bonuses

The Mineral Springs School Board held their regular monthly meeting this week.

Superintendent Billy Lee stated the Senate made a recommendation that all schools use their ESSER III funds to pay their teachers for bonuses this year. 

Lee said if approved, teachers will receive the bonuses between November and December and it will be considered a Christmas bonus. Lee stated they had $300,000 of the ESSER III funds remaining and $100,000 in isolated district funds and they are able to distribute the bonuses between the teachers. Lee presented this to the board and seeked approval of this plan of paying the classified and certified teachers with the ESSER III funds and isolated district funds.

A motion was moved by board member Ray Hawkins and seconded by Vice President William Dixon. All were in favor of the employee bonuses.

Superintendent Lee made a recommendation to the board to accept the resignation of one employee, Elementary Teacher Laken Hockaday. Lee also made a recommendation to hire Jaylyn Pinson as a certified teacher and replace Hockaday for the remainder of the school year.

The recommendation for the resignation along with the hiring of 1 teacher was approved by the board.
