Mineral Springs City Council Names Mayor Pro-Tem, Approves Staffing and Financial Measures

The Mineral Springs City Council convened for their regular monthly meeting on Monday evening, addressing matters of leadership, staffing, and city operations.

After a brief executive session, the council reconvened and approved the nomination of Vera Marks as Mayor Pro-Tem. Marks will serve in the role when Mayor Bobby Tullis is absent.

In a move to streamline financial procedures, the council also approved the implementation of electronic funds transfer (EFT) payments for all eligible city accounts.

Additionally, council members approved the hiring of a part-time worker for 12 hours per week at no less than the state minimum wage of $11 per hour. The duties for the position will be assigned by City Treasurer Denise Juniel. City officials emphasized that any job assigned will fall within legal boundaries and that regular audits ensure the legality of all city employment practices.

The council also heard monthly departmental reports. The Mineral Springs Fire Department reported a total of 13 calls for service during March 2025, including four first responder calls, four brush or grass fires, one structure fire, one vehicle accident, and three smoke alarm activations. The department also conducted two training drills.

Mineral Springs Police Chief Francisco Mercado provided the police department’s activity report for March, which included four citations, five offense reports, one misdemeanor arrest, and two felony arrests.

Chief Mercado also shared that Officer William Harberson is set to graduate from the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy this Thursday, April 17, at 10 a.m. in Camden.
