Nashville City Council

The Nashville City Council met in a special called meeting on Thursday. The Council approved a lease agreement for the purchase of a truck & knuckleboom loader to be used by the street department. The unit has a purchase price of more than $155,000. City officials say the new unit will allow for easier removal of debris and large items, such as appliances and will also require fewer employees to operate. Public Works Director, Larry Dunaway says the unit should be delivered to Nashville within a couple of weeks. The purchase approval came during a special council meeting Thursday afternoon. Council members also met yesterday to confirm three recent appointments by Mayor Billy Ray Jones. In February, William Turkey was named to fill a city council vacancy from Ward 4. Earlier this week, Mayor Jones appointed Carol Mitchel to fill the unexpired city clerk’s term and Robert Chism to fill Mitchell’s council position. Since then, city officials have learned the council had to vote on those appointments. That vote was approved by all seven council members in attendance at yesterday’s meeting.
