Pike County Quorum Court increases mileage rate

The Pike County Quorum Court heard a couple of requests at their meeting this week from Sheriff Travis Hill.  He reported the purchase price on four new patrol units was going to be higher than originally thought.  In addition, due to rising costs in fuel and natural gas, some additional funding will likely be needed for his department this year.

The sheriff also reported that Shawn Flaherty, who serves as the department’s Information Technology worker, is asking his pay be increased from $400 to $1,000 per month, citing a significant increase the amount time Flaherty is working.  The court approved the request for the remainder of this year on an eight to nothing vote.

J.p.’s also voted to follow state guidelines on a temporary increase in mileage costs.  The rate has been 42 cents a mile.  However, due to rising gasoline prices, the mileage rate has been increased to 52 cents per mile, effective March 17th.  The rate will be re-evaluated once the fuel prices drop below $3.50 per gallon.
