Pike County Sheriff’s Office Awarded State Grant
Members of the Pike County Quorum court held their regular monthly meeting last week.
Treasurer Loletia Rather summarized the finances for the month of January. County General had a beginning balance of $2,335,420.81 and an ending balance of $1,248,346.17. County Road had a beginning balance of $843,166.62 and an ending balance of $860,028.55. Landfill had a beginning balance of $944,249.35 and an ending balance of $949,713.21. There was a 7 to 0 vote to accept the treasurer’s report for the month of January.
Pike County Sheriff Travis Hill mentioned the state grant that the sheriff’s department was awarded in the amount of $100,000 dollars and it’s to be used to purchase equipment. Hill stated the purchases would include bullet proof vests, portable breathalyzers, ballistic shields, body cameras, restraint chairs and a milo active shooter training machine. Hill even mentioned selling off six older police units that are no longer in service. Pike County Judge Eddie Howard stated that he has a few pickups that needed to be included in the sale as well. There was a motion made to allow the sale of the vehicles with the option of a public auction or accept sealed bids. All were in favor of the motion.
