DeWitt speaks to Rotarians about Athletic Trainers

Terry DeWitt

Terry DeWitt of Arkadelphia was the guest speaker at this week’s meeting of the Nashville Rotary Club.

DeWitt has been a professor at Ouachita Baptist University for the past 22 years. He started working with student athletes at OBU when he was a student by taking players to doctor appointments, for surgery and to rehab.

DeWitt explained athletic trainers are healthcare professionals who render service and treatment, under the direction of and in collaboration with a physician. He reported athletic trainers are certified by the Arkansas State Board of Athletic Trainers.

DeWitt said 62 percent of Arkansas schools do not have appropriate medical services for student athletes and explained how important athletic trainers are to athletes.

Next week’s Nashville Rotary meeting will be held at the Western Sizzlin restaurant.
