Hutchinson on Omicron and Back-to-School

As the Omicron variant of COVID-19 continues to sweep across the nation data from the Arkansas Department of Health indicates that Arkansas is no exception. The state agency reported an increase of over 1,400 cases in the most recent released data bringing the number of total active cases across the state up to over 26,500. Howard County’s portion of that is equal to approximately 98. Leading the way for all the surrounding counties. As today marks back to school for many concerns have risen regarding school resuming. Governor Asa Hutchinson responded to this topic stating the state would not be changing course and that the pursuit of education while relying upon the local governing school districts to promote a safe learning experience is the best route to take.

The governor also reminded the public that the vaccine is approved and available for students ages 5 and up.
