Nashville City Council approves purchase of additional weather sirens

The Nashville City Council has voted to add three additional weather sirens to serve town.  A study of the existing siren coverage area revealed three under served areas.  Those include the northeastern, northwestern and southeastern sections of Nashville.  To provide a complete coverage, the council voted Monday to add the three additional weather sirens.  These new sirens will be located near the water tower on Old Airport Road, near Tyson Foods, and at the U of A Cossatot campus.  Fire Chief Justin Thornton, who has been working on the project, said the three new sirens will help provide complete coverage for the city of Nashville and will also reach far enough west to include the hospital and children’s center areas.  Thornton said the new units will be the exact same type of siren the city already has in place.

Total price of the three new units, including installation, will be $101,850.  The sirens should be installed in about 10 weeks.
