City of Mineral Springs gears up for $5M sewer project

The Mineral Springs City Council held a special called meeting last Thursday.

Mayor Bobby Tullis explained to the council that they are currently under a consent order from the department of the Division of Environmental Quality involving the sewer system. Tullis stated that the city of Mineral Springs asked for an extension of the final compliance date on December 20th, 2022, and now all that’s left to do is for the council to approve a resolution to authorize the Mayor and Treasurer Denise Juniel to sign the Consent Administrative Order Amendment. There was a motion made by aldermen James and seconded by Charles Deloney to authorize the mayor and city clerk to sign the CAO Amendment.

Tullis stated that the city of Mineral has a $5 million dollar sewer project coming up which would be a total renovation of the system and he also mentioned raising rates to pay back the million-dollar loan.

Tullis even discussed the resolution for the park grant being approved by the council and how the city plans to do major work at the park.

Tullis mentioned to the council that the city would receive a matching grant in the amount of $100,000, $30,000 from the federal government, and a loan from Diamond Bank that’s also $30,000. Aldermen Frankie Harris requested that the council be updated on any work that is done at the park and to have receipts anytime money is taken out of the account.
