Nashville City Council meeting focuses on old Childress School and Benson Nursing Home buildings

Monday afternoon, aldermen of the Nashville City Council were asked to consider 10 resolutions declaring the existence of a nuisance upon certain property within the corporate limits for the purposes of providing for condemnation and removal of the nuisance.

Several citizens including members of the families that own the property that was to be considered for condemnation were in attendance and several citizens spoke to the council about their plans to renovate the properties. Following a spirited discussion, Mayor Billy Ray Jones recommended the council vote to table to resolutions for 90-days. He said after the 90-days the city’s code enforcement officer, David Riggs will re-evaluate the properties to see if progress is being made to bring the properties up to code.

A couple of the properties in question include: the old Benson Nursing Home and the Old Childress School building.
