Dierks City Council approves 2% raise

Dierks city employees are scheduled to receive a two percent pay raise in 2021. Following a lengthy discussion regarding a pay raise ranging from two to three percent, aldermen settled on the two percent figure. They also indicated a strong desire to look at merit raises next year. Several other budget considerations were discussed, including the purchase of a new backhoe next year. Other than deciding on the two percent pay increase, no official action was taken on next year’s budget. The final version will be adopted next month.
Monday’s meeting also included an executive session to discuss employment of a part time person in the water department. Mayor Ronnie Cogburn said three people applied for the position. Upon returning to open session, the council voted to employ Tracy Parsons for the position. The hiring will be contingent upon Parsons passing a background check.
