Nashville School Board Cont.

Bunch Nichols reported in Monday’s school board meeting that the arrival of 7 new school busses was expected in the near future. The allocation of use for these new busses would be 5 for school related trips and 2 for regular routes. Nichols also informed the public that more of the everyday route busses would be outfitted with state-of-the-art camera systems. These camera systems were purchased with ESSER funding to allow the school district improved tracking concerning COVID-19 close contact cases.

Nichols also spoke to the improved security added with these cameras. The Nashville School District employs 17 full-time drivers as well as several sub drivers. Nichols said the district was currently looking for more sub drivers.

During Superintendent Doug Graham’s report he presented the idea of upgrading the Scrapperette’s softball field to include the addition of a pressbox. A grant is being pursued to help fund this initiative but Graham said if the timeline didn’t allow for use of the pressbox by this next season he would look into other funding options. Graham also made mention to the board his desire to create a “Scrapper Hall of Fame”. While currently just a thought he asked the board to be mindful of what that could look like for the city of Nashville.
