Mineral Springs City Council

Mineral Springs City Council met Monday evening for their regular August meeting. This being the first regular meeting for new mayor, Vera Marks. Marks opened the meeting stating she was looking to move forward and make progress in the great city of Mineral Springs. She also stated that these City Council meetings would be carried out with respect for one another. Moving into the meeting A vacancy was filled for Ward 3 formerly Vera Marks position. Ashley Thomas was unanimously approved and took her position at the Alderman’s table. Marks opened the floor to members of the public who were on the agenda. Each was notified of a time limit of 3 minutes per person. Gauldin Garbage Collection was present offering a bid to the city to pick up trash twice a week at a monthly price of $15.50 per household. No action was taken at this time.

Dadrick Franklin, youth from Mineral Springs, requested permission to paint several structures at the park himself at no expense to the city. He stated he is a young artist who walks by the park everyday and feels the community deserves to see some life restored into the public property. Council members agreed and deferred him to meeting with the Parks & Rec department.

Last of the Public Hearings & Petitions was William Tabler. Tabler questioned the legitimacy of the town’s City Council members due to the amount of members who were appointed vs elected. It was explained by Mayor Marks that as the resignation of both the mayor & recorder/treasurer positions was sudden the council did what they felt necessary to keep the quorum afloat as order was restored. Mr. Tabler took his seat however continued to interrupt the business of the meeting. Tabler was issued an official warning of removal but left on his own accord. 

Treasurer Denise Juniel then notified the council that a $6,000 grant had been received from the State of Arkansas. It was decided that $4,000 would go towards the Police Officers of Mineral Springs as hazard pay during the pandemic with $2,000 going towards supplies for the department.
