Nashville Man Arrested on Drug and Warrant Charges Following Traffic Stop
A Nashville man was arrested on drug-related charges after a traffic stop on January 2, 2025, led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine.
According to the affidavit, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Nashville Patrol Officer David Shelby pulled over a white Hyundai Elantra for the driver not wearing a seatbelt. Upon making contact with the driver, identified as 31-year-old William Allen Franks of Nashville, Officer Shelby informed him of the reason for the stop.
It was reported that a routine check of Franks’ driver’s license revealed an outstanding warrant for his arrest issued by the City of Nashville. To assist with the situation, Nashville K9 Officer Greg Parker and his K9 partner, Thor, arrived at the scene. Officer Shelby asked Franks to exit the vehicle and step to the rear, where he informed him of the warrant and began to take him into custody. However, before Officer Shelby could fully detain Franks, he stepped back toward the driver’s side door, placing his wallet back into the vehicle.
Franks was taken into custody, and Officer Parker deployed K9 Thor to conduct an open-air sniff around the vehicle. Thor alerted to the presence of drugs inside the car. During the subsequent search, Officer Shelby reportedly discovered Franks’ wallet, which contained a rolled-up $1 bill with a crystal-like residue believed to be methamphetamine. Further inspection of the wallet revealed a small plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance also suspected to be methamphetamine.
Franks was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance in addition to the outstanding warrant. He was transported to the Howard County Detention Facility and is awaiting further legal proceedings.
