Pike County Quorum Court Discusses Feral Hog Problem

For a third consecutive month, this week’s meeting of the Pike County Quorum Court included discussion on the feral hog problem in the county. Ricky Chastain of the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission spoke about the various options available to the county. He advised j.p.’s to visit with officials in Clark and Nevada counties to come up with a plan that state grant funding will pay for. Chastain said its possible additional money might be made available for the issue in May. County Judge Dewight Mack said he would be visiting soon with judges from the other two neighboring counties.

Terrell Davis, director of the Pike County Extension office, spoke about a variety of programs that are currently ongoing. Davis said online registration is underway for a membership drive. Membership cards featuring discounts from local businesses are available. Davis says some of the extension service’s events coming up include a weed control demonstration and a monument cleaning project along with a prescribed burn at the Kirby School.

J.p.s also named Johnny Plyer of Glenwood as the quorum court’s delegate to this year’s state meeting.
