Regional Basketball Tournaments Move To Second Day

The Dierks Outlaws have advanced to next week’s Double A State Basketball Tournament by winning yesterday’s opening game in the regional tournament. Dierks defeated Parkers Chapel, 78-64. They will play Friday afternoon against the winner of today’s contest between Harmony Grove and Foreman. In the tournament’s other boys game from yesterday, Junction City defeated Murfreesboro, 64-49.

At the 4A regional yesterday in Crossett, all four teams representing the 7-4A Conference were defeated including both of the conference’s top ranked teams. In Wednesday’s girls games, Crossett defeated De Queen 56- 52 and Star City beat Bauxite 48-26. In the boys games, top seeded Malvern ended its season with a 63-46 loss against Camden Fairview and Magnolia beat Bauxite 70-36.

Today’s games include contests featuring both Nashville teams. The Scrappers play Warren at 5:30 this afternoon. The girls game between the same schools will be played at 7:00 o’clock.

From the Class A tournament yesterday, two of the three area teams were winners. Kirby defeated Dermott in the girls bracket while the Kirby boys team eliminated Strong. Also at the tournament yesterday, Blevins girls had their season come to an end with a loss against Emerson.
