Howard County’s Solar Panel System Installed

Howard county’s new solar panel system has been installed at the old hospital property on Leslie Street in Nashville. County Judge Kevin Smith said the system is expected to be hooked up this week and when operational will generate electricity for the county to sell back to SWEPCO. Enough power is expected to be generated by the solar panels that the county will see a 97 percent reduction in its utility bills.
The solar panels are one of several projects the county has been working on recently after the quorum court approved spending approximately 1.85 million dollars for an energy efficiency program. County owned property has converted fluorescent lighting to L.E.D. bulbs and the courthouse is in the process of switching from a boiler heating & cooling system to a modern HVAC system that can be controlled for each individual office. Judge Smith says that portion of the project should be completed by the middle of next month.
