Local resident arrested for illegal possession of a firearm

A 41 year old Nashville area resident has been charged with a felony count for illegally possessing a firearm. Brock Cox, who shows an address on Polk Meeting House Road was arrested this month after Nashville police conducted a traffic stop on his vehicle. Reports say Officer David Shelby observed a truck with defective tail lights and conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle. During the process, Shelby said he learned that Cox had a history of past drug charges and was a convicted felon. When Officer Shelby asked for consent to search the vehicle, he was denied. He then requested the department’s K-9 unit, Apollo, to conduct an open air sniff of the vehicle. The dog alerted police to an area near the passenger side door. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a loaded rifle hidden under a coat in the front seat. In addition to the weapon, police say they also recovered 11 more rounds of ammunition in the vehicle.
Cox was arrested & transported to the Howard County Jail. He has since been charged with a felony count of Possession of Firearms by Certain Persons.
