Be courteous or go to jail

The city of Dierks says it plans to take steps in April to deal with any water customers who become unruly while paying their water bill.  Mayor Ronnie Cogburn said the city plans to have an on-duty officer stationed at city hall during April.  The police department is being instructed to arrest any citizen on Disorderly Conduct charges should they belittle city employees about the cost of a water bill.

The mayor reminds that water meters in Dierks are now read by an electronic radio system as water employees drive by.    Dierks water bills are due by the 10th day of each month.  On the 11th day, a late fee will be assessed and water service on bills not paid by the 21st of each month will be disconnected.

The city council enacted an ordinance requiring a $50 payment be made to have water services reconnected.  Mayor Cogburn said these policies apply to every resident within the city of Dierks.
