Authorities Arrest Texas Man On Identity Financial Fraud Charge

Police in Nashville have arrested a Dallas, Texas resident on charges of Financial Identity Fraud. Authorities say 55 year old Carlyle Causey allegedly had opened a checking account at Diamond Bank in Nashville by using the name of Ricky Newsom. Bank officials alerted police investigator Tim Bowlin about the incident because the teller who opened the account noticed Causey didn’t appear to be the person on the Texas driver’s license that he had presented to bank employees. Investigator Bowlin made contact with Newsom in Dallas, Texas and learned that Newsom’s vehicle had been broken into and his wallet stolen late last year. Bowlin advised the bank to contact police if the individual returned.

A few days later, the bank notified police that the suspect was in the bank. Investigator Bowlin, lieutenant Clint Tedford and officer Jimmy Steely responded. When they asked for identification, Causey presented Newsom’s driver’s license, social security card and a debit card.

Causey was arrested and is being held in the Howard County Jail.
