Pike County approved for a clean-up grant

Last week during the Pike County Quorum Court’s regular monthly meeting, Judge Eddie Howard presented the 2022 legislative audit letter and stated that there were no findings across the board. It was reported that all officials were praised for a clean audit.

Karen Barlow took the floor to explain the need to apply for a grant to upgrade the repeater tower located at 10 Anderson Trail. Barlow explained that the grant was a 50/50 grant and the amount needed to match funds was $4,041.52. Justices of the Peace then approved a motion to approve the grant application along with adopting a resolution as read that was in regard to an application for upgrading the repeater tower at the sheriff’s tower site at 10 Anderson Trail. 

Barlow also provided an update on the grants that the county has been seeking. She stated that the county was not qualified to apply for the Brownfield Grant but there was a clean-up grant she applied for using the study from Erica Tidwell and it was approved. Barlow informed JPs that the grant is 100% and will remove all asbestos from the interior of the hospital. Barlow was unsure of the start date of the project but expects it to be in the coming months. 

Barlow also asked for blessing of the JPs to work with the South Pike County Water Association in conducting an LMI Study to apply for a CDBG Grant. JPs spoke largely in favor of this project and told Barlow to proceed. Lastly Barlow stated the historic preservation project was slated to begin next week with the upgraded electrical throughout the courthouse and hopes to get contractors to start with the exterior cleaning right away.
