Several Hundred Smoke Detectors Installed Locally

Officials with the American Red Cross and area fire departments have teamed up to install hundreds of smoke alarms at residences around the area. Personnel visited 110 homes last Saturday and placed 429 smoke alarms in those homes. The residences were in the service areas of fire departments covering Bingen, Center Point, Nashville, Yancey and County Line and the Mineral Springs department.

Firemen say the homes selected were based off sign up sheets presented at last fall’s Golden Gathering and from the recent Fire Prevention Week. The goal is to install smoke detectors inside every residence in the area. If your home doesn’t have a smoke detector and you’d like one, contact the Nashville Fire Department at 845-1515.

The smoke alarms being installed are maintenance free and come with a ten year battery.
