Superintendent of SPCSD contract extended for 2 additional years

Thursday night, board members of the South Pike County School District approved a motion to extend Superintendent Tanya Wilcher’s contract for 2 additional years, making it a 3-year contract through the 2026-2027 school year.

Murfreesboro Elementary Principal James Riley shared the math and reading growths the second-grade students are showing on the Star Test this year.

Riley also talked about the changes with GT students and how they will be doing special projects during the GT pullout time and during RTI time.

High School Teacher and Dean of Students Cheyana Burns presented an update on the Murfreesboro High School and the use of the RTI scheduler and the training usage of the new ATLAS assessment system.

Before concluding with her report, Burns informed the board that the students are producing a program called Rattler Reminder and will be used as a monthly update for all students.

Other motions that the board approved were the 2024 Six-year Facility Master Plan as presented, the partnership program application for the funding cycle of 2025-2027, and the regional early start date waiver for the 2024-2025 school year.

In conclusion, Wilcher reported that they will look into the possibility of using their campus during the eclipse. Wilcher said once they get a plan, they will present it back to the board. Wilcher added that the next board meeting will be February 19th at 6pm.
