Wellborn Shares about CF during Nashville Rotary meeting

Linda Wellborn was the guest speaker at the Nashville Rotary Club, this week.

Wellborn is a respiratory therapist at St. Michael’s Hospital in Texarkana and she has two children who have Cystic Fibrosis. Her son passed away when he was 5-years-old and her daughter was diagnosed has a young adult after receiving a false negative test when she was a child.

Wellborn said for a child to have CF, both parents must be carries. If one parent is a carrier then the child as a 25 percent chance of having CF.

Wellborn stated there is no cure for Cystic Fibrosis, but through research, the life expectance of a CF child is now to their late 30s or 40s. She said they need time and money to find a cure for CF and CF patients are running out of time. Wellborn asked the Nashville Rotary Club to help raise funds to find a cure for CF.

Rotary President Andi Green is hosting a CF benefit on Saturday, October 31st from 1 to 5 pm.

The Nashville Rotary Clubs meets every Wednesday at noon.
